You will need:

Step 1 Step one
For porous items, like terracotta, prime with Resene Sureseal. If using galvanised steel, prime with Resene Galvo One. For bare steel, use Resene Rust-Arrest.
Step 2 Step two
Seal timber with Resene Quick Dry Acrylic Primer Undercoat. Use an enamel primer if existing paint is enamel. Allow to dry.
Step 3 Step three
Apply an acrylic basecoat. For a subtle antique look, we chose Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Soft Amber for our wooden container.
Step 4 Step four
For a more dramatic effect, we used a basecoat of Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Golden Sand for the terracotta pot. Allow to dry.
Step 5 Step five
Apply the Resene Crackle Effect and let dry. A thick coat will result in fewer, larger cracks, while a thin coat will give smaller, shallower cracks.
Step 6 Step six
Apply a contrasting topcoat colour. We used Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Chocolate for the terracotta pot.
Step 7 Step seven
For the wooden container, we used Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Colonial White. To achieve a different look, apply with a sponge.
Step 8 Step eight
If potting up with plants, treat the inside of the terracotta pot with Resene Terracotta Sealer.
