Happy cat pot plant

Why not give a purring furry friend this cool kitty plant pot complete with delicious cat grass – it’ll make their day!

Paint a cat designed plant pot.

As seen in kiwigardener

You will need

  • A clean terracotta pot
  • ‘Cat Grass’ plant (these are available at most garden centres)
  • Gardening gloves
  • Paintbrushes
  • Potting mix
  • Small trowel

Why do cats like ‘Cat Grass’?

It was once thought that cats only ate grass when they were feeling unwell, but scientists have shown that most cats enjoy eating grass as part of their regular diet to help with digestion (it’s also a good source of folic acid for them). ‘Cat Grass’ is particularly attractive to them because the foliage is softer than some coarse grasses – younger cats may also like playing with the leaves!

Instructions

Step 1 Step one
Before you begin, get an adult to apply one coat of Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer to the inside and outside of the terracotta pot and allow to dry.

Step 2 Step two
Use Resene Malibu to paint some sky around the outside of the terracotta pot, as shown in the picture. Also paint the top and inner rim of the pot with the same colour. Once the paint is dry, apply a second coat, and allow this to dry as well.

Step 3 Step three
Use Resene Japanese Laurel to add some grass, as shown. Again, once the paint is dry, apply a second coat, and allow this to dry.

Step 4 Step four
Use Resene Black to paint a nice big cat shape on the outside of the terracotta pot, as shown. Once again, let the paint dry and then apply a second coat, allowing this to dry.

Step 5 Step five
Use Resene West Side to add two big bright cat’s eyes, and allow the paint to dry.

Step 6 Step six
Use Resene Alabaster to paint a nice big smile on the cat, and allow the paint to dry.

Step 7 Step seven
Use Resene Black to add a pupil in the centre of each eye. Allow the paint to dry.

Step 8 Step eight
Using the small trowel, carefully put some potting mix into the painted cat pot and plant the ‘Cat Grass’ in the centre. Carefully firm the potting mix around the plant – it is best to use gardening gloves if you can.
