Tea for two

Outdoor furniture needn’t be out of sight, out of mind. Spruce up old metal tables and chairs to transform them into a colourful garden feature, in readiness for the sunnier times ahead.

You will need: Old metal table and chairs, Clean cloth, Electric drill with sanding attachment, Sandpaper, Paintbrushes, Paint stirrer, Mineral turpentine, Resene Enamel Undercoat, Resene Rust-Arrest, Resene Super Gloss enamel tinted to Resene Pelorous.

Top tip: If signs of moss or mould are present on any garden furniture prior to repainting or staining, simply treat with Resene Moss & Mould killer first, following manufacturer’s recommendations.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Deep Blush.

As seen in kiwigardener

Step 1 Step one
Using the electric drill with sanding attachment, carefully remove any areas of rust from the furniture and then lightly sand all over with sandpaper to ‘key’ the surface.
Step 2 Step two
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth and make sure the furniture is fully clean of any dirt or surface debris.
Step 3 Step three
Spot prime any areas of rust or bare metal with Resene Rust-Arrest and allow to dry. Clean brush in mineral turpentine.
Step 4 Step four
Apply one coat of Resene Enamel Undercoat to all surfaces of the furniture and allow to dry. Clean brush in mineral turpentine.
Step 5 Step five
Carefully stir the Resene Super Gloss enamel.
Step 6 Step six
Apply one coat of Resene Super Gloss enamel to all surfaces of the furniture and allow to dry. Clean brush in mineral turpentine.
Step 7 Step seven
Apply a second coat of Resene Super Gloss enamel to the furniture and allow to dry. Once more, clean brush in mineral turpentine.
