Wooden window box

Mark Rayner adds instant colour to an outside window ledge with this easy project.

You will need: 40mm galvanised jolt head nails, timber offcuts for front trim, we used a 15mm x 20mm garden stake, two 1.2m treated fence palings, exterior PVA glue, potted colour, drill with 15mm drill bit, hammer, paintbrush, paint stirrer, pencil, sandpaper and a saw. Resene Woodsman Penetrating Oil Stain, tinted Resene Grey Green.

To get the look: Mark painted the window ledge with Resene Lumbersider, tinted to Resene English Holly.

Some planting ideas: We used some potted colour for instant appeal, but this window box could also be used for growing small succulents, ornamental grasses or culinary herbs.

Here's another option: The window box could also be painted with Resene Lumbersider, tinted to any colour from the Resene Range. Make sure you prime the wood first, with Resene Quick Dry.
