Instructions

Learn how to make ornamental garden globes:

How to make ornamental garden globes - Step 1 Step 1
Coat the inside of the glass globe with cooking oil to prevent the concrete sticking to it. This makes it easier when removing the glass.

How to make ornamental garden globes - Step 2 Step 2
Place the globe into the plastic bag and nest it in the towel to stabilise it.

How to make ornamental garden globes - Step 3 Step 3
Using the colander, sieve the ready mix concrete into the large mixing bowl or bucket. Sieving the concrete will give a smoother finish by removing larger stones. Mix the concrete to the consistency of pancake batter. Make sure you are wearing the correct protective gear.

How to make ornamental garden globes - Step 4 Step 4
Pour the concrete into the globe, and gently mix and tap the concrete to release any air bubbles. Do not tap the outside of the globe as this may cause the glass to shatter. Leave to set.

How to make ornamental garden globes - Step 5 Step 5
Once set, roll up the plastic bag and towel over the globe. Make sure you are wearing goggles, gloves and long sleeves. Use the hammer to carefully break the glass which should stay in the plastic bag. Unwrap and remove all glass, and wrap in newspaper before disposal.

How to make ornamental garden globes - Step 6 Step 6
Dust the concrete globe with a brush, and prime with Resene Concrete Primer. To keep a clean concrete finish, use Resene Concrete Sealer.

I used Resene FX Faux Rust Effect for the final look, painting on two base coats and finishing with the Activator. Decorate in your choice of Resene exterior paints and finishes.
