Stars with stripes

Mark Rayner's pretty planter is ready for your favourite herb.

You will need: Cylindrical terracotta pot, ours came from Mitre 10 Mega, low-tack masking tape, paintbrushes (including artists brush), Resene Terracotta Sealer, Testpots of Resene Limerick and Resene Moxie, Resene Quick Dry and Resene Clearcoat UVS.

As seen in kiwigardener

Step 1 Step one
Apply one coat of Resene Terracotta Sealer to the pot and allow to dry.
Step 2 Step two
Apply one coat of Resene Limerick to the outside, top and inner rim of the pot. Allow two hours to dry.
Step 3 Step three
Apply a second coat of Resene Limerick to the outside, top and inner rim of the pot and allow two hours to dry.
Step 4 Step four
Turn the pot upside down and beginning from the rim and working up, mask off a series of equal bands, as shown.
Step 5 Step five
Paint the edges of the masking tape with a line of Resene Limerick and allow to dry - this will help to seal the edge and stop the second colour from seeping under the masking tape.
Step 6 Step six
Paint the bands with one coat of Resene Moxie and allow two hours to dry.
Step 7 Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the entire planter and allow two hours to dry.
Step 8 Step eight
Apply one coat of Resene Clearcoat UVS to the pot and allow to dry before planting up with your favourite herb - we used a curry plant, H. angustifolium.
