Raised veggie bed

Mark Rayner creates a very simple raised veggie bed.

You will need:

Top tip: Choose a sunny spot for your veggie bed, well protected from strong winds, and ensure you keep it well watered during the warmer weather.

Step 1 Step one
Cut two of the 1.8m fence palings into 90cm lengths and the remaining fence paling into four 45cm lengths.
Step 2 Step two
Carefully stir the Resene Woodsman with a paint stirrer - it's a good idea to do this from time to time while applying the wood stain as well.
Step 3 Step three
Apply two coats of Resene Woodsman to the front and side edges of the fence palings and leave each coat to dry for 24 hours.
Step 4 Step four
Position the DIY garden corner units, as shown, lightly tapping into position with a hammer.
Step 5 Step five
Fix the DIY garden corner units into position with 25mm galvanised flat head nails.
Step 6 Step six
Repeat steps four and five around the remaining corners to create two rectangular sections, as shown.
Step 7 Step seven
One of these rectangular sections will form the base of the raised bed. Fix an 'H' shaped connecting unit halfway along each side of this base section.
Step 8 Step eight
Place the base section into position and simply slot the top section into each of the 'H' shaped connecting units. Fill the raised bed with potting mix and plant up with your favourite veggies - we went for a mini 'potager' look by including a few flowering annuals as well.
