Chilli pot

Mark Rayner transforms a 'long tom' tomato pot into a funky chilli planter.

You will need:

To get the look: Mark planted up the pot with a chilli using good quality potting mix, and finished it off with a white stone mulch. The background wall was painted with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene El Salva.

Step 1 Step one
Seal the inside and under the base of the pot with one coat of Resene Aquapel and allow to dry.
Step 2Step two
Paint the outside and inner rim of the pot with one coat of Resene Sureseal and allow to dry for two hours. Wash brush out in mineral turpentine.
Step 3 Step three
Using a 'stippling' technique, apply a generous coat of Resene Sandtex to the outside and inner rim of the pot. Allow to dry for two to three hours.
Step 4 Step four
Apply one coat of Resene Optimist to the outside and inner rim of the pot and allow to dry for two hours.
Step 5 Step five
Using the Resene mini roller kit. apply two coats of Resene Yeehaa to the outside and inner rim of the pot, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 6 Step six
Paint chillies on the side of the pot using two coats of Resene Guardsman Red, and chilli stalks with two coats of Resene Saratoga. Allow two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 7 Step seven
Paint in shadows down one side of each chilli using Resene Pohutukawa. Allow two hours to dry.
Step 8 Step eight
Apply two coats of Resene Concrete Clear to the outside and inner rim of the pot. Allow two hours for each coat to dry.
