Wooden picture frame

It’s easy to transform an old wooden picture frame using Resene Danska Teak Oil.

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloths, old wooden picture frame, mineral turpentine for cleaning, brush, paintbrush, pliers, Resene Danska Teak Oil, rubber gloves, sandpaper.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Picton Blue.

Other ideas: For a paler effect, an old wooden picture frame can also be transformed using Resene Colorwood Whitewash.

Step 1

Remove the backing board and hanging device from the picture frame.
Step 2

Carefully pull out any framing staples with pliers and remove the glass.
Step 3

Remove any old framing tape from the back of the picture frame.
Step 4

Sand the back of the picture frame to remove any old gum residue from the framing tape.
Step 5
Step five
Carefully sand the front of the picture frame with a medium grade sandpaper. Wipe clean and then finish off with a fine grade sandpaper.
Step 6
Step six
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step 7
Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Danska Teak Oil to the picture frame, brushing in the direction of the grain.
Step 8
Step eight
Wipe off any excess Resene Danska Teak Oil with a clean cloth and allow 24 hours to dry. Clean brush with mineral turpentine.
