Restained fence

Breathe new life into an old stained fence with a little bit of help from Resene.

Ways with wood with Mark Rayner - Project 74

Difficulty level: Challenging

You will need: Bucket, Garden hose with clean running water, Garden sprayer, Paintbrush, Paint stirrer, Previously stained fence, Resene Moss & Mould Killer, Resene Timber and Deck Wash, Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene English Walnut, Stiff-bristled brush.

To get the look: Mark painted the shelf with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Ciderhouse.

Other ideas: For a rich black effect stain the fence with Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Pitch Black.

Step 1

Mix one part Resene Moss & Mould Killer to five parts clean water.
Step 2

Thoroughly soak the fence with the solution and leave for 48 hours.
Step 3

Mix one part Resene Timber and Deck Wash to three parts clean water.
Step 4
Step four
Scrub the fence vigorously with the solution using a stiffbristled brush.
Step 5
Step five
Rinse off with clean water and allow the wood to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Carefully stir the Resene Waterborne Woodsman.
Step 7
Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Woodsman to the fence and allow to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply a second coat of Resene Waterborne Woodsman to the fence and allow to dry.
