Fan Trellis

Transform a plain fan trellis into an attractive garden feature using Resene Woodsman Wood Oil Stain.

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: 40mm galvanised nails, a clean cloth, hammer, mineral turpentine, a paintbrush, a Resene paint pot, a paint stirrer and sandpaper. Resene Woodsman Penetrating Oil Stain tinted to Resene Earthsong.

To get the look: Mark painted the background fence with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Eternity.

Other ideas: For a strong contrasting effect stain the trellis with Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Pitch Black and attach to a fence or wall painted with Resene Alabaster.

Remove any labels from the fan trellis.

Step two
Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper and wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.

Carefully stir the Resene Woodsman wood Oil Stain.

Step four
Remove any labels from the fan trellis. Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper and wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth. Carefully stir the Resene Woodsman Wood Oil Stain. Apply one coat of Resene Woodsman Wood Oil Stain to the back of the trellis. Once touch dry, turn over and apply one coat to the front of the trellis.

Step five
Remove any labels from the fan trellis.

Step six
Apply a second coat of Resene Woodsman Wood Oil Stain to the front and back of the trellis. Again, allow 24 hours to dry.

Step seven
Wash brush in mineral turpentine.

Step eight
Fix trellis to fence using galvanised nails.
