Display table

Build this elegant display table using plywood and turned timber legs, and finish it off with Resene Waterborne Colorwood wood stain.

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: a piece of 25mm plywood measuring 350mm x 1000mm, a clean lint-free cloth, drill, felt marker pen, paintbrush, sandpaper, saw, screwdriver, turned wooden table legs and brackets (ours came from Mitre 10 Mega) and a wooden stirrer. Resene Aquaclear gloss, Resene Waterborne Colorwood tinted to Resene Capri.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Keppel.

Other ideas: For a rich, dark look try Resene Waterborne Colorwood tinted to Resene Mahogany.

Step 1

Cut the plywood to the dimensions listed above, and smooth any rough edges with sandpaper.

Carefully stir the Resene Waterborne Colorwood using a flat wooden stirrer.

Apply one coat of Resene Capri to the table top. Leave to soak into the plywood for up to 15 minutes and then wipe off any excess with a clean, lint-free cloth.
Step 4

Apply one coat of Resene Capri to the table legs. Again, leave to soak into the wood for up to 15 minutes and then wipe off any excess with a clean, lint-free cloth. Allow to dry and then apply a second coat of Resene Capri to the table top and legs. Leave to dry for 48 hours.

Apply two coats of Resene Aquaclear gloss to the table top, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Apply two coats of Resene Aquaclear gloss to the table legs, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 7
Step seven
Position the metal brackets on the underside of the table top and mark the central hole, as shown, using a felt marker pen. Using each mark as a guide, drill four 10mm holes (approximately 20mm deep).

Drill and then screw the brackets into position and then screw the legs into the brackets.
