Two tone planter

Transform a simple wooden planter into an eye-catching feature using two contrasting colours from the Resene Waterborne Woodsman range.

Difficulty level: Easy

You will need: a treated timber planter, paintbrush, a piece of cardboard and sandpaper. Resene Waterborne Woodsman Penetrating Oil Stain tinted to Resene Bamboo and Resene Downriver.

To get the look: Mark used colourful Polyanthus to create a seasonal splash of colour.

Other ideas: Try contrasting green tones from the Resene Waterborne Woodsman Penetrating Oil Stain range such as Resene Rangitoto and Resene Fern Frond.

Step 1

Lightly sand the planter to remove any splinters.
Step 2
Step two
Turn the planter upside down and apply one coat of Resene Downriver to the first leg – use a piece of cardboard to mask the edge, as shown.
Step 3

Continue to work your way around the planter, staining each leg and the underside of the rim.
Step 4

Move on to the base of the planter, as shown.
Step 5
Step five
Turn the planter the right way up and apply one coat of Resene Downriver to the inside.
Step 6
Step six
Continue applying Resene Downriver to the top rim of the planter.
Step 7
Step seven
Carefully apply one coat of Resene Bamboo to each side panel of the planter.
Step 8
Step eight
Leave to dry for 24 hours before applying a second coat of Resene Downriver and Resene Bamboo to the planter.
