Petanque court

Create this fabulous petanque court for some outdoor recreation this summer.

Resene Toys and Games with Mark Rayner - Project 06

Difficulty level: Challenging

You will need: 4 cubic metres of crushed pumice or fine gravel, 60mm coach screws (x40), 100mm x 100mm x 3m treated fence posts (x10), Broom, Drill, Garden hose with clean running water, Large galvanised corner brackets (x4), Large galvanised plates (x6), Long piece of wood (or fence post) for levelling, Paint stirrer, Paintbrush, Rake, Ratchet set, Resene Waterborne Woodsman penetrating oil stain tinted to Resene English Walnut, Shovel, Wheelbarrow

To get the look: Mark painted the background block wall with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Spray.

Other ideas: For a strong black finish use Resene Waterborne Woodsman penetrating oil stain tinted to Resene Pitch Black.

Step 1
Step one
Lay the fence posts on the flat concrete to form a rectangle measuring 3m across by 12m long. Place angled brackets at each corner and drill four pilot holes.

Screw brackets into position using four coach screws and the ratchet.
Step 3

Place the large galvanised plates over each of the joins between the fence posts and drill four pilot holes then fix into position using four coach screws and the ratchet.

Shovel and barrow the aggregate, keeping within the rectangular frame.
Step 5
Step five
Level the aggregate to an even depth of approximately 100mm using a rake.
Step 6
Step six
Work a long piece of wood (or fence post) across the surface of the aggregate to flatten and lightly compact the surface.
Step 7
Step seven
Carefully stir the Resene Waterborne Woodsman with a paint stirrer.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply two coats of Resene English Walnut to the outer wooden frame, allowing 24 hours for each coat to dry.
