“When I first saw my Resene colour, Adrenalin, it immediately made me think of the energy and vibrant colours of the sun, with its swirling oranges, reds, and yellows.
The sun's energy serves as a life force to us all. It keeps us alive. Up close its explosive surface burns more intensely than anything imaginable. Its solar flares can’t be seen by the naked eye but through a telescope it erupts on the sun’s surface. This is what inspired me to create an asymmetrical design and use flared sleeves for my garment. The drawstring ruched cut-out side will convey the sun and its rays beaming out.
But how does the sun connect to me? Growing up in England, where sunrises were not particularly special, the significance of the sun in my life became apparent whilst I was travelling. I realised how beautiful sunrises/sunsets were in different countries. When I moved to New Zealand this only amplified my connection to the sun, with its beautiful landscapes and spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
For the past few years, I have enjoyed sunrise walks and swims. This can be tough mentally depending on the time of year. I have to hype myself up to get in the sea in winter. However, if it’s a gorgeous sunrise I feel like I owe it to myself to get in. The combination of the cold water on my body releases adrenaline and the warm sun on my face brings a sense of calmness to me. This small act enriches my mood for the day.”
