“The colour I received was Resene Princess which I was very lucky to get as it is my favourite colour. I wanted to make something that would be extra feminine and cute just like a princess would wear. I took a lot of inspiration from a Japanese fashion style called Lolita, which is heavily inspired by Victorian and Rococo clothing.
When I thought about the theme princess, fancy castle interiors came to mind. I thought by putting a decorative trim inside the bodice panels it would replicate the way Rococo architecture uses decorative wooden boarders around doorways and on walls. I made sure to have a lot of volume in the skirt to make it drape like luxurious window coverings. I chose the name Crystal Palace because it is a dress that resembles a fancy palace.
