“Wayfarer, a traveller, someone seeking more, someone looking for something new, different, an experience. After growing up in Istanbul, Türkiye my Baba (Dad) at 18 decided there was more out there for him. Luckily his father was a ship captain so he hitched a ride to the big apple, New York where he lived with his cousins, he could only imagine the possibility. Working countless jobs, he can sell almost anything from carpets to clothes, even cars.

17 years later after meeting my mum in 1993 he arrived on the shore of Aotearoa.

For my design I wanted to draw from, his history, his travels, his culture with a story with endless chapters, diving into rich Turkish heritage and extracting the very best from it all. To studying the architecture of our world’s most diverse city to create something truly unique to my baba. There is nothing more interesting than a person that has seen it all.

With my design I have tried to show the quirky character my baba is through an unconventional pairing of very flowy, airy pants with a hard ridged architectural line of the top. Now it's my turn to imagine the possibilities.”
