“When I first opened the package revealing my colour, Resene Tango, I was instantly reminded of Hawa Mahal, the Palace of the Winds in Jaipur in the state of Rajasthan. I was then reminded of the temples and religious sites that are still so important to many people today.

Even in the fast paced industrialised cities that boast some of the finest advances in science and technology, the faith and reverence for the old traditions has persisted to the present day.

That really impressed me and inspired me to look to the past as well as the future. I wanted to create a timeless look that would look like it could belong in a temple on the red carpet. The drapery in the tents of the Banjara people gave me an appreciation for the natural drapery of silk and so I decided to go for a light, drapery look that would be comfortable and still elegant.

As a belly dancer with an appreciation for the cultures of the near East and the Indian subcontinent I wanted to keep the original design influence of the temples and palaces of Jaipur recognisable in my final design.

The colour is also reminiscent of the colours worn by the statues I’ve seen of the Hindu God Krishna and the Buddha. Having spent time in an Ashram of Krishna and a once frequent attendee of the temples in Kyoto my design is reflection of my personal inspiration.“
