Colour: Resene Sunflower

Resene Sunflower

“Duality is the name I came to for this garment as the strength of a sunflower’s stem and the brittle weakness of the petals, the brief time they shine brightly and then die away, the beacon of hope they gave artists like Van Gogh. This idea of duality is also in the garment, in the softness of the smocking, the structural design in the sleeve and bodice and the bounce and life in the skirt. Duality. Resene Sunflower is very bright and encouraging and positive. Making one happy just looking at it.

The circles on the sleeves are a reference to the two layers of petals on sunflowers as well as a throwback to the sleeve style in 1946, the year Resene was founded, as well as a look forward to the strong bold fashion we see now.

The smocking is born from the idea of sunflower seeds, giving the garment layers and depth and character and making it unique just like every sunflower is unique.“
