From the Resene Total Colour Awards gallery of entries
After having their home severely damaged in earthquakes the homeowners selected to rebuild their new house to the previous design, recycling the rimu beams from the old house, but everything else was built new.
The exterior is bright and bold and is an obvious landmark that can be seen from the beach below. Exposed rafters and angled soffits, colonial windows and glazing bars all provided challenging areas to finish neat when cut in with the Resene Dynamite weatherboard finish. This was teamed with windows in Resene Colonial White, exterior facings and rafters in Resene Pavlova and sills in Resene Grey Friars.
The homeowner selected the colour scheme based on another building in the neighbouring area in a similar colour and design, and requested a low sheen finish, so Resene Lumbersider was used.
Extremely steep and difficult site access, tight angles in the soffit to weatherboard finish and sea and salt spray added significant challenges to this project.
The interior has a more soothing colour palette, with living areas in Resene Half Colonial White and Resene Half Dutch White and the bathroom in Resene Boulevard. The tongue and groove walls and ceilings used in selected areas complemented the colonial features of the building.
