EFS office

Eltham

The owners of this building are EFS Accounting and as they were moving into their own purpose built premises they wanted to have some distinctive features to make their building stand apart from others.

Although the budget was restrained the street elevation was able to be treated with some brightly coloured elements to make the building different.

The main corner that is seen as one approaches the building had to be interesting so two multi-faceted and coloured panels were designed, separated at the corner by a clear glass column. This enables the owner to see the street activity and provides a ‘lightness’ to the design. An ‘L’ shaped canopy is attached to the glass front of the building. The colour of the canopy contrasts with the black wall and the multi-coloured panels. The owners have had very positive comments from their clients about the design of the building and this has reinforced their decision to approve the original design.

The colours for this building had to be bright to stand out from the crowd. The use of a multi-coloured panel system with irregular shaped panels of contrasting colours in Resene Tandoori, Resene Terracotta (custom)and custom green was inspired by the playful kaleidoscope and harlequin themes. The green canopy is intentionally 'over the top' but at the same time is beautiful and a striking element set to a background of matt black weatherboards. The green has become the signature colour for the company with all business cards, logo and accents using the vivid green colour, even the glass splashback to the staff kitchen is the same green. Together the green and the orange complement each other perfectly and make up a great looking building that speaks for the company.

Neville Saunders has made a name for himself with his use of bright colours that complement his designs. In his role as Architect he always uses an accent colour and is known in particular for his vintage red front doors! The mixing of bright colours with more subdued tones is often a hallmark of his designs and can be seen clearly in the Wallin House, NPDC Chambers as well as this accounting project.
