Hampton Downs

Hampton Downs attracts the world’s top racing car drivers and motor bike riders. It needed the visual wow factor to compete with other venues available to the motor racing industry. It is not enough to just have a great venue to cater to exciting adrenalin pulsing action for the fans. It is not just Hampton Downs being displayed to the motor racing industry, it is a mark of how we as New Zealanders wish the world to see us as a destination venue.

Cleaning the concrete was quite an achievement of its own. As a regularly used racing venue, dirt, grease and fumes needed to be carefully cleaned before the painting could start.

As a Waikato landmark the colour palette for this project needed to both eye-catching and dynamic. A total of seven colours were used including Resene Red Hot – just like the racing action, Resene Adrenalin – packed fans and drivers come riders, Resene Turbo – paced excitement, Resene Kakapo – a true Kiwi battler, Resene Elvis – strut your stuff and let the show begin, Resene Pukeko – as Waikato as they come and Resene Centre Stage – where motor racing comes alive. All colours were tinted into Resene Lumbersider applied over Resene ConcreteSeal 3 in 1.

The inspiration for these colours came from a rainy day when the foreman from Waikato Decorators came into the Te Rapa Resene ColorShop to gather colour charts for the Hampton Downs project. The Assistant Manager had just got in a new Resene limited edition rainbow umbrella and had one up showing staff. It was the perfect inspiration for the palette. Together they matched the bright colours on the Resene limited edition umbrella to Resene paint colours.

The bright, exciting, eye catching colour arrangement is sure to make all visitors smile no matter what the weather. The Resene colour palette is both fun and tasteful, that views well through the television coverage and on site without being garish and over the top.
