Roaring 40s Bar

A quick sign / shelf for a bar owner's 40th birthday. The reason for the tractor on this sign is because Herb transplants tractor motors with a V8 motor and loves tooling around on them.

I set myself a 2 hour limited on this sign to see if I could beat the clock.

Simple stuff really. Photo 1 shows a mask made from cheap and nasty vinyl stuck to the board and a token white base sprayed on as shown in Photo 2. All the paint used here are water based Resene products.

This doesn't need to be a heavy coat, just enough to create a "solid" for the lighter colours to follow. This was Resene's Quick Dry Undercoat which is ideal because I can zap it dry with my trusty heat gun. You don't need to worry about your paint bleeding under the mask as the outlining to follow will tidy everything up.

Photos 3 & 4 show my yellow on, then with a half blend of orange /red misted down from the top.

Photo 5 shows all my blends now in place. App. tape was used to mask off the areas to do the blue blend on white.

Photo 6 shows the lettering de-masked and ready for the fun part.

Photo 7 shows my quick rendition of Herb on his V8 tractor and the added in outlines, shades and dry brushing.

Photo 8 all done and with the added on top shelf and wall mounts. I did the sign in 2 hours 15 minutes and spent another 45 minutes doing the shelf and mounts.
