Neutral shades may be popular, but bathrooms can also benefit from a splash of colour, says Resene.

It's official. Homeowners are spending more time and energy achieving the right looks for their bathrooms. And it's not just the fittings that have captured our attention. The colour of our bathroom walls is also under close scrutiny. It's not surprising, therefore, that paint manufacturers have developed new products to cater to this interest. Resene not only makes it easy to choose the right colours, the company also has released new waterborne enamel paints specifically designed for wet areas.

Resene marketing manager Karen Warman says that while acrylic paints are generally easier to apply than enamels, the enamels offer durability in wet areas. In 1996, Resene launched the first waterborne enamels, Resene Lustacryl and Resene Enamacryl. These combine the toughness and durability of enamel finishes with all the benefits of waterborne paints, Warman says. For example, brushes clean up easily in water. Warman says recent developments from Resene include the introduction of a low-sheen version of these products, Resene Zylone SpaceCote.

"While Resene Lustacryl and Enamacryl are well suited for trim, joinery and wet areas, their semi-gloss and gloss finishes have prevented their use on most interior wall surfaces because of the current trend towards low-sheen finishes," she says.

"Resene Zylone SpaceCote is a low-sheen, low-odour, waterborne enamel, which is ideally suited to bathrooms, kitchens and laundries." Warman says the paint can be used on walls, joinery and trim, both inside and out.

Resene Zylone SpaceCote is available in all the latest colour ranges released by Resene, including the new Karen Walker Paints. This new range of colours - 29 murky blues, greys, browns and creams - was designed by Walker with Resene.

The new waterborne enamel is also available in The Range, a collection of 150 traditional and contemporary colours and five metallic and textured specialist finishes. The range builds on previous collections and is based on international colour predictions that are tailored to suit the New Zealand lifestyle and environment.
