The walls and ceiling in the living area of the Mod Pod are painted in Resene Half Joanna. Brighter colours feature in bedrooms and bathrooms.

Knowing how to maximise a small space can make all the difference to the comfort and practicality of a home. For the beach house featured on these pages, innovative design elements were combined with careful paint selection. The Mod Pod, a relocatable holiday home designed by Red Turtle Design and built by Haven NZ, features a crisp, linear design with lightweight cladding and timber flooring.

The linear look is enhanced by the use of Resene Half Pravda on the weatherboards, which wrap around the deck and extend into the living area. Red Turtle Design introduced a subtle colour change for the boards on the interior. Here Resene Quarter Pravda provides a softer look. The other walls in the living area, as well as hallways and ceilings, are painted in Resene Half Joanna, a green-toned neutral shade that enhances the spacious look of the house. The kitchen features a red colour-backed glass splashback and mobile grill that provides extra, pull-out bench space. Brighter shades are also a feature of the bedrooms and bathrooms, where shades such as Resene Lusty, Quarter Granny Smith and Schist give the house personality without compromising the airy atmosphere.
