Finishing touches

The colour scheme for Jane’s bedroom is based loosely around the quilt she brought home after several years living in Scotland.

She wanted her room to be feminine but not girly and chose colours from the Resene Karen Walker Collection to help achieve this. The walls are painted in Resene Foggy Grey and the ceiling and architraves are painted in Resene Buttery White. She had the bedside cabinets and blanket box lacquered in Resene Buttery White as well to help create a cohesive look.

There are a number of homemade elements in the finished room: Jane made the headboard from a quilt, a foam topper pad and a piece of plywood; the cushions from a pair of tea towels; and the lampshades were from an existing set now covered with her curtain fabric. She made the Aroha above the bed after being inspired by a craft section in Your Home and Garden magazine.

The mirrors above the antique sidetable are her favourite part of the room. They came off her grandmother’s dilapidated oak duchess and Jane loves how hanging them directly onto the wall has given her a modern twist on the classic ‘dressing table’ look. The finished room is delightful and just right.
