Room with a view

The Blundell family inherited this decades old kitchen when they bought a family farm. They had one month to do a low budget makeover before moving in and having another baby.

They had the dark stained beams, ceiling and original kitchen cabinetry painted out in Resene Sea Fog and the walls were repainted in Resene Half Napa - the perfect colour for a farmhouse and home now to 4 boys! They have also removed some excess cupboards off the wall above the bench and extended the bench wide enough for a breakfast bar. Due to their limited budget the original cork tiles remain but they are warm and durable.

Being a 70s concrete block house, the house seemed to be suited to a low key retro theme, which led to the use of the Marimekko fabric for the shades and the furniture, mostly sourced from Trade Me.In reverse, looking outdoors is a panoramic view of a beautiful farm valley.The lounge is partly open plan and at right angles to the kitchen. The dark beams were also painted out in Resene Sea Fog and walls in Resene Half Napa to fit with the existing painted area.

They love their colour scheme as it is restful as well as practical and with such amazing views is neutral enough to not detract from the vista outside.
