Times two

When the Trenwith’s daughter Lucy was born last year, they had two new projects to do: transform their second son’s very ‘boy’ room to a girl’s room, and create a playroom for their boys, who would now be sharing a bedroom.

The first project was turning an old, partially covered, dark and drab veranda off the boys’ bedroom into a light, fresh playroom, with French doors opening out to the boys’ own deck and vege garden. To do this they used Resene Alabaster on the walls, providing the perfect background for the kid’s art work and brightly coloured drum kit and toys. To give the room a playful feel they painted the floors with Resene Subzero, which ties in nicely with Resene Anakiwa, which is on the walls of their bedroom.

The second project was Lucy’s bedroom. Kim has always wanted to paint a room in their house yellow. Now she had the perfect excuse. It was hard to find the balance between not too bright but not too buttery, with Resene Sweet Corn the eventual winner. This was combined with wardrobes in Resene Illusion to add a real girly touch, along with Resene Alabaster for the rustic shelf and drawers. This created the perfect girl’s room. Not too girly, but sweet and pretty. Perfect for a little girl who loves to get dirty and play rough and tumble with her brothers, but equally loves to wear pretty dresses, shoes, and lots of beads.
