To grow intoThe Fahey's 1890s cottage was a two bedroom, two living-space home with a lean-to at the back housing kitchen, bathroom and laundry, with a total floor area of 84 square metres. Keen to expand, they added a kitchen/living/dining/office extension and now the original four rooms are bedrooms. When their daughter turned five the plan was to turn the old dining room into her bedroom. When asked what her dream room would be like she said ‘all things sparkly'. With that as a brief, and following extensive structural changes, the decorating got underway. Their daughter Isabella loves strawberries, so a few of these have been incorporated with the cushion and dangly decorations on either side of the fireplace. She loves to dance so the big ex-dressing room mirror works well. An inexpensive light fixture was turned into a chandelier with the addition of some sparkly beads. Built in storage was added with a wardrobe, a cube shelving unit and a window seat with large drawers underneath. Isabella loves pink but they wanted to create a room she could grow into. The soft green Resene Coriander looks gorgeous with pinks but also with many other colours so it can evolve as she grows. This room is all about its owner - and she loves it just the way it is.
