A recent repaint of a 40 square metre living room and kitchen
floor involved a check pattern, masking tape and painstaking work,
but the result is worth it!
Neill and Laura spent weeks of evening work to create the effect,
which while disruptive (they have three young children) was the
most cost effective option available.
The previously painted floor of a predominantly chipboard extension
to a 1910 villa needed some care. Vinyl or similar would have
brought with it a bill of $3000, painting it cost just $700.

A combination of Resene Sandcastle, Resene Mediterranean Olive
and Resene Dark Crimson were used to suit the house style. The
floor was painted Resene Sandcastle then a grid was drawn on top
and masked up with 6mm signwriter tape. The 6mm tape created a
'grout' effect between the 200mm 'tiles'. The cost of the tape
meant they could only afford $50 worth - enough to do a third
of the floor at one time, so they lifted and reused the tape twice.
To protect the finished painted tile effect, two coats of Resene
Uracryl were applied across the entire surface for a tough durable
finish.

The floor now looks superb though Neill and Laura both deserve
a rest for their dedication.
Thanks to Neill Gordon and Laura Jackson of Napier.
