Looking for lightThe Caughley's started revamping their bathroom to create a feeling of light, warmth and space, something fun and different. The problem of space was partly resolved by taking out the hot water cylinder and installing it downstairs, and by installing a wall-mounted sink and freestanding bath. A new skylight and window provided lots of natural light and instantly lifted the space. Choosing colour is always one of their favourite parts of renovating rooms as it seems to make the most difference to a space and give it a character of its own. The old claw foot bath bought years ago was finally given a home and a new look with the colour Resene Shiraz. Resurfacing the inside and spraying the feet in chrome further transformed it to look like new. They loved the Resene Shiraz colour so much that they had to have it on the wall as well. Blue vinyl was used to provide contrast to the bold colour teamed with Resene Conifer on the custom-made cabinet. The skirtings and ceiling were freshened up with Resene Rice Cake. In a twist on the norm, baby corrugated iron became a feature by its horizontal orientation to contrast the vertical lines of the tongue and groove.
Accessories such as the chrome towel rail, lampshades and round mirror completed the desired look. The finished result is alive with interesting textures, materials, shapes and colours - anything but an ordinary bathroom.
