The
tired old brown wood grain Melteca kitchen needed an update but
within a tight budget, so it was decided to spray coat the joinery
and replace the benchtop and appliances.
With a hot wall colour in mind, a neutral colour was needed for
the joinery. Karen Walker Albescent White, the final selection
as it combines cream with a hint of earthiness, came up fantastically
with the joinery looking fresh and new.
The walls were destined for something with a bit of a zing -
Lesley originally had the orange Resene Zest in mind but her husband
was firm that they were not going to have an orange kitchen. More
paint charts later, they settled on Resene Earls Green - a fresh
colour with a hint of black giving it a slightly more natural
feel.
The kitchen flows onto the dining room with brightly coloured
blinds drenched in afternoon sun, a perfect location for a selection
from the quiet Karen Walker collection - Karen Walker Periglacial
Blue. The muted blue picks up the blue in the blinds and goes
surprisingly well with the Resene Earls Green, toned down by the
cabinetry and wood floors.
Resene Dutch White was selected for the walls, joined by Resene
Bianca for the window trim and Resene Cha Cha for the feature
wall running the length of the dining/kitchen area. Lisa found
the most satisfying aspect of the project was seeing the effect
colour can have within an area and yet it was the least expensive
part of the whole makeover.
