Bed to bath
Renovating their 100-year-old villa, Karen and Greg transformed a bedroom into a luxurious bathroom complete with Resene New Orleans walls, Resene Midnight Express bath and ceiling and a decorative frieze to tie the two main colours together. The dark ceiling colour draws the ceiling closer to the floor reducing the perceived height of the high stud room. Retaining the original fireplace and surrounds from the bedroom gives the bathroom an unusual yet comforting decorative feature.

The villa style with veranda protects the home from excessive light but can make the rooms appear dark. To compensate, the bedroom is finished in Resene Nepal and Double Spanish White, a light uplifting colour scheme.

Greg did all renovations from gibbing to painting himself over a period of two months fitting in the work in whatever spare time he could find. The original doors, skirtings and surrounds required time-consuming and energy sapping sanding by hand to ready them for the paint system.

Karen recommends that you should "always try testpots first. Colours can look quite different in different rooms depending on light."
