Bedroom by two

With two bedrooms to redecorate, Sandra Barns had her work cut-out.

Alana's bedroom features a bold scheme of Resene Honey Flower on lower walls, the dressing table, wardrobe door framing, wardrobe floors and the bedroom door, split by a frieze before joining Resene Atlantis on the upper walls, wardrobe door louvres andlower surround of the decorative cat paw prints themed from the frieze. The full length curtains of Street Babe by James Dunlop in the colour lavender with a matching voil of Patches by James Dunlop tone beautifully and soften the window. A stack-a-shelf customer closet wardrobe organiser has been built into the wardrobe to maximise the storage space and help keep clutter to a minimum.

And the challenges?

• Painting the wardrobe door louvres a different colour to the framing.
  
• Stripping back old layers of painted wallpaper and after extensive sanding using lining paper to ensure a smooth finish.
  
• Removing and painting the original shelving system.
  

Tegan's bedroom features Resene Sweet Corn walls, dressing table and doors with a feature wall and wardrobe floor in Resene Tory Blue. The two colours combine for a flowing colour scheme cleverly playing against each other across the room and working well with the full length curtains and roman blind of Two by Two by James Dunlop in the colour Lemon. The full length curtains, backed in the same fabric, soften the room and frame the windows.

• Choosing a gender neutral colour scheme as the baby had not been born when the room was decorated.
  
• Decorating a room while pregnant.
  
• Stripping back old layers of painted wallpaper and after extensive sanding using lining paper to ensure a smooth finish.
  
• Removing the impact of the rough sawn central ceiling beam painted in brown stain.
  
• Painting the louvre wardrobe doors.
  

Despite the many challenges, the entire family are delighted with the rooms, each stamped with a unique personality of its own.
