One small part
The bathroom makeover, replacing a poky 60's bathroom and adjacent toilet, was one small part of a larger project involving the complete refurbishment of an early 1900's villa.

The design was evolved by Jan to revert to square room space (to better suit the villa style); incorporate all bathroom and laundry facilities; provide additional storage opportunities both in the bathroom and in the adjoining hall (a common lack in villas!) and provide a warm and usable space.

Aided in the construction by Jan's brother, Anne and Jan completed all the painting and finishing themselves. Being the only bathroom in the house and having a live-in builder during the job, planning the tasks to ensure washing and toilet facilities were still available while working was a real challenge.

Colour selection also proved more of a challenge than expected. The plan was to use blue in the bathroom. However many testpots and colour charts later they concluded that this just would not work as everything seemed too cold and dark for the south side of the house room. A complete review of ideas and more colour charts led to the selection of Resene Texas Rose, a warm orange and certainly not something that was originally considered. Teamed with a fresh white the room now positively glows with warmth, a challenge in itself in a somewhat draughty villa.
