DownsizedAfter the Huber family's dream home took a ridiculous 12 months to build (instead of the promised 12 weeks) and two insurance claims in three months thanks to their 2-year-old son, the Hubers decided to downgrade both in mortgage and house quality. So they downgraded into a home that has lots of potential, even if it is a little rundown. Daughter Ayla and son Mathias both have identical rooms with a gorgeous outlook over the bush filled backyard and then across to the park. Both rooms get a lot of light and the schemes in each needed to be either both bright or both soft otherwise it would look odd. Knowing Resene have an incredible range of paint colours Danella thought she would tackle curtains first - bright roman blinds for colour and lack of fuss. After much searching, Danella finally found a plain orange and then a plain citrus green cotton fabric perfect for roman blinds. With curtain fabric in hand, the paint colour for each room could be matched. Resene Broom was selected for Ayla's room for three walls and Resene Flamenco for the feature wall. The oranges worked gorgeously together and matched in well with the existing duvet cover. The green curtains were destined for Mathias' room and were teamed with Resene Bahia for three walls and Resene Tory Blue as the feature wall. A very kind girlfriend offered to make the curtains for one third of the shop quoted price, which motivated Samantha and her husband to paint. Both took time off work to paint while the children were safely at school and kindergarten. 163 holes in Mathias' wall and 58 in Ayla's room had to be plastered before the painting could even start. With that chore out of the way they painted the rooms up. However the curtains were not forthcoming. The weather got very cold and after a few kind but repeated calls, Samantha's girlfriend advised that the curtain fabric was terrible to work with - it frayed worse than silk and when she tried to back it with thermal lining it would stretch and pull in all directions. Still, she persevered with the fabric and finally created the finished roman blinds that now adorn each room. The paint colours, blinds and duvets work together well, and Ayla and Mathias' pals and buddies think the rooms are fab, fun and very hip!!
