Sofa start A pair of 1920's sofas were the starting point for her colour choices in her lounge. Using Resene EzyPaint virtual painting software, the colour scheme of Resene Cosmic for the ceiling down to the picture rail and Resene Viking for the walls was selected. Luckily Roanne's husband trusts her judgement and has learnt to smile when told the latest wild colour scheme. Unfortunately friends and family aren't so tactful, often passing horrified comments until they are pleasantly surprised by the finished result.
It was a fairly straightforward job painting over the existing textured wallpaper. The biggest hurdle was what to do with the defunct gas heater complete with brown brick surround - a problem solved by getting the heater professionally removed. Once gone, the gaping hole was plastered and painted, including using topcoats of Resene Viking on the brickwork. With a sofa strategically placed in front, the old gas heater home is well disguised. With the colours in place, Roanne decided the drama of the hues warranted shiny silver curtains, which unfortunately couldn't be found in any local shops. Luckily, Margaret, Roanne's mother-in-law, came to the rescue making the curtains for them, cleverly using the reverse side of black stretch denim to get the desired effect.
With colours and curtains in place, the finishing touches of artwork by up and coming Wanganui artist, Rachel Garland, and Roanne's late Grandmother, ER Maunder were added, leaving Roanne free to sit back, relax and enjoy her latest creation. Thanks to Roanne Barnes Hautapu of Palmerston North.
