Green scenePicking the colours for their home's exterior was somewhat of a nightmare. With a roof of Persian Red COLORSTEEL® finding complementary colours seemed somewhat of an impossibility. Research, trial and error and Resene EzyPaint virtual painting software helped the Olliviers pick their scheme of Resene Half Spanish White walls and Resene Tolopea highlights. However, it wasn't quite enough - something was needed to give it a lift. Eventually the Resene colour wheel provided the inspiration... Green!! Five or six testpots later, the Olliviers established that Resene Verdun Green was just what they needed for the added highlight with the advantage that it provided a link between the house and the surrounding trees. Resene Double Spanish White was applied as a contrast to the concrete footing to complete the look.
The next challenge was to combine the key colours together. Deciding that the strong roof colour needed to be balanced with strong window and door colours, Resene Persian Plum was applied to sills and doors, Resene Tolopea to facings and Resene Half Spanish White to the windows themselves. Several windows were painted then repainted to get the balance just right. The final highlights of bargeboards and door sills were completed in Resene Verdun Green.
The garage is finished in a different architectural style from the house but the well selected palette provides the necessary visual link to draw the two together. Inspiration gallery 2003
