Your Home and Garden Resene Inspiration Gallery

Contemporary retro
The project to tidy-up and revamp their 1960's weatherboard rental was undertaken while Kirsty was seven months pregnant. They had just one week to spruce up the house and make it desirable enough to entice new tenants when they left and funky enough to warrant them paying the asking rental fee.

Three colours were chosen as the palette for the entire house, selected for their contemporary feel and the unique combination of hues. Resene Sisal became the primary calm neutral tone to flow through the entire house for consistency complemented by feature walls of Resene Dynamite and Resene Aubergine in two of the three bedrooms, the lounge and the hallway.

The biggest challenge Kirsty faced was to work with and tie in the existing 1960's floor vinyl and gold squab in the cubical seat without resorting to using a yellow as one of the paint colours. The open plan kitchen and dining area was the perfect space to bring the three paint colours of Resene Sisal, Dynamite and Aubergine together with the gold. When standing in the space, the colours and the vinyl almost give a contemporary retro feeling, which they absolutely love.
