Outdoor chair

Breathe new life into a tired outdoor chair using Resene GP Metal Primer and Resene Lustacryl.

Fun with furniture with Mark Rayner - Project 44

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloths, bucket of warm soapy water, mineral turpentine, outdoor chair (ours had a metal frame), paintbrush, paint stirrer, Resene GP Metal Primer, Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Escape, Resene paint pot, sandpaper.

To get the look: Mark painted the gazebo floor with Resene Walk-on flooring and paving paint tinted to Resene Inside Back.

Other ideas: For a greater contrast paint the chair frame with Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Diesel.

Step 1

Wash the chair thoroughly with warm soapy water to remove any dust and dirt. Rinse with clean water and allow to dry.

Lightly sand the metal frame with sandpaper to remove any light rust and to ‘key’ the surface.
Step 3

Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step 4

Carefully stir the Resene GP Metal Primer.
Step 5
Step five
Apply one coat of Resene GP Metal Primer to the metal frame and allow to dry.
Step 6

Clean the brush in mineral turpentine.
Step 7
Step seven
Carefully stir the Resene Lustacryl.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply two coats of Resene Lustacryl to the metal frame allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
