Anticipating the arrival of her second child, Wellington’s Sacha Lees created a fun space that her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Lupita Taylor could call her own.

Lupita wanted a purple bedroom, for which Sacha used Resene Innuendo on two walls and Resene Quarter Napa on the others. For the stunning branch mural, Sacha drew an outline in pencil, then painted it with Resene Quarter Napa for the branch, Resene Smoky Green for the large leaves, Resene Beryl Green for the heart-shaped leaves and Resene Clementine Orange for the birds. It looks great teamed with the real branch Sacha found in a nearby park and hung from the ceiling, before making birds out of fabric, creating a little girl’s nature paradise.

Children can be rough and tumble, so choose a hardwearing paint finish like Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen.

Add character to a plywood box with paint. The look of aged timber can be created by dry brushing, then adding copper nails and stencilling to complete the design. A final coat of Resene Aquaclear varnish will protect the finish.
