Roses are red, violets are blue, but what do these colours mean to you?

From 17 May at the Otago Museum, full COLOUR - the spectrum of our world is a special exhibition that looks at many aspects of colour, including its meaning, use and application. From camouflage to combinations, from symbolism to psychology, this vibrant exhibition deals with colour in many different ways.

You will be surprised with the extent that colour impacts on our world and influences how we live. While we are eating our breakfast or playing our favourite sport, colour has a significant impact whether we know it or not. Would you eat your toast if the bread was pink, or drink your coffee if it was blue? Would you run out onto the field wearing red and black if you were playing for Otago?

Give some thought to the effects that colour has in your life, then come to the Museum and see how much it impacts on the world around us. You can also come and find answers to the age-old questions 'why is the sky blue?' and 'can bulls really see red?' And if you can guess how many Jelly Beans are in the jar, you may just win them all for yourself.

Bring your friends and family to share in the excitement of this Otago Museum developed exhibition, highlighting some enticing and colourful items from the collections.

"It is tremendous to be able to provide our community with the opportunity to see such an intriguing exhibition", says Museum Director, Shimrath Paul. "Designed to appeal to a wide audience, this exhibition will encourage our community to think twice about things in their everyday life as well as provide exposure to collections not usually on display."

Visitors can come and see this wonderful perspective on colour from Saturday 17 May in the Special Exhibitions Gallery.
