Wallpaper collage

It’s so easy to create a simple collage from old wallpaper and a few Resene testpots.

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 81

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloth, leftover or old wallpaper, paintbrushes, piece of hardboard cut to fit picture frame, PVA glue, Resene Quick Dry, Resene testpots of Resene Persian Red and Resene Rodeo Dust (or colours to match your wallpaper), sandpaper, scissors, wooden picture frame.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Designer White.

Other ideas: Use bright scraps of wrapping paper or leftover wallpaper and matching testpots to make a collage for a child’s bedroom.

Step 1

Lightly sand the picture frame and piece of hardboard. Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step 2
Step two
Fix the piece of hardboard into the picture frame. Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the frame and board, allowing two hours to dry.
Step 3

Apply one coat of Resene Persian Red to the frame and allow two hours to dry.
Step 4
Step four
Apply a second coat of Resene Persian Red to the frame and allow two hours to dry.
Step 5
Step five
Apply two coats of Resene Rodeo Dust to the central hardboard section, as shown. Allow two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Cut out pieces of pattern from the wallpaper.
Step 7
Step seven
Fix pieces of wallpaper to the central section, as shown, using PVA glue.
Step 8
Step eight
Seal across the top of each piece of wallpaper with a thin coat of PVA glue and allow to dry.
