Retro clock

Transform an inexpensive wall clock into a fabulous retro feature with a little bit of hep from Resene.

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 79

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: 8mm wooden furniture dowels, clean cloth, paintbrushes (including an artists' brush), PVA glue, Resene Aquaclear gloss, Resene paint stirrer, Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Shiraz, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, sandpaper, wall clock.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Alabaster.

Other ideas: Create a cool chalk board clock using Resene Blackboard Paint and chalk numbers.

Step 1
Step one
Lightly sand the clock face to 'key' the surface.
Step 2
Step two
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step 3

Carrefully stir the Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer.
Step 4
Step four
Apply one coat of of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the clock face and allow to dry.
Step 5
Step five
Carefully glue the wooden furniture dowels around the clock face, as shown, to form 'numbers'. Allow glue to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Apply two coats of Resene Aquaclear to the wooden furniture dowels, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 7
Step seven
Use an artists' brush to carefully 'cut in' around the furniture dowels using Resene Shiraz.
Step 8
Step eight
Paint the rest of the clock face with Resene Shiraz. Allow to dry and apply a second coat of Resene Shiraz to the clock face. Allow to dry.
