Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Length of stiff wire, Piece of clear polythene sheeting, Paintbrushes, Resene testpots in the following colours: Resene Broom, Resene Havoc, Resene Lima, Resene Nero, Resene Paua, Resene Resolution Blue, Resene Tangerine and Resene Violent Violet, Scissors, String, Transparent weatherproof duct tape

Top tip: When you’re painting the windsock, stand it on an offcut of plywood to prevent newspaper from sticking to it.

Make a windsock Another idea: Make a fish

Step 1
Step one
Bend the wire to form a circle and join the ends together with a piece of duct tape.
Step 2
Step two
Use the scissors to cut a tapered rectangle of polythene sheeting (this means that one end is narrower than the other). Join the long edges together with duct tape, as shown, to form the body of the windsock.
Step 3
Step three
Fit the wire circle in the widest end of the windsock and trim excess polythene with the scissors. Fix the wire into position with duct tape.
Step 4
Step four
Paint a stripe of Resene Havoc around the widest end of the windsock. Repeat to create a series of rainbow stripes using Resene Tangerine followed by Resene Broom, Resene Lima, Resene Resolution Blue, Resene Paua and Resene Violent Violet. Allow to dry.
Step 5
Step five
Use Resene Nero to paint evenly spaced circles on the rainbow stripes. Allow to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Use the scissors to snip strips to form a tail at the narrowest end of the windsock and tie a string to the wire at the other end. Now it’s time to hang up your windsock outside and wait for the wind!
