Wooden lamp

It’s easy to create an aged antique effect on wood with a little bit of help from Resene.

Ways with wood with Mark Rayner - Project 70

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloth, Paintbrush, Resene Aqua clear satin, Resene paint stirrer, Resene testpot of Resene Colorwood Whitewash, Sandpaper, Wooden lamp base.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene New York Pink.

Other ideas: Create a rich brown effect by staining the lamp with Resene Mahogany and then sand back to reveal the wood beneath. Again, finish off with Resene Aquaclear.

Unscrew the bulb fitting from the lamp.

Lightly sand the lamp base to remove old varnish and ‘key’ the surface.
Step 3

Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step 4

Apply one coat of Resene Colorwood Whitewash and allow to dry.
Step 5

Lightly sand off some of the Resene Colorwood Whitewash, as shown, to reveal the wood colour beneath.

Lightly sand off some of the Resene Colorwood Whitewash, as shown, to reveal the wood colour beneath.

Step seven
Carefully stir the Resene Aquaclear.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply three coats of Resene Aquaclear to the lamp base, allowing two hours for each coat to dry. Reassemble the bulb fitting.
