Oasis

A place of calm in the midst of everyday chaos.

Oasis Linen collection of bed linen from Gorgi makes a calm and restful bedroom

  1.  Introducing a soft and muted colour equally described as a green grey or blue grey, due to the textural quality of the fabric (pictured is Gorgi's 100% Linen Euro Pillowcase in Oasis).

  2. A calming, elegant colour that compliments other analogous colour such as black, charcoal, brown, lighter grey green hues and taupe, or as a contrasting backdrop to considered accents in saturated colour including navy, fresh contrasting greens, or metallic bronzes that are deep, smooth and richly dapper.

  3. Natural Sand 100% Linen Duvet Cover - the base cloth:  [that is the fabric that we use as a backdrop to other products on the top of the bed and also within the room.]

  4. Style direction - the fabric family. [fabrics that we use to add layers and interest to the base cloth]. Layer the bed with a second tone in the same, unparalleled 100% linen, 'Natural Sand' - a soft natural linen with subtle flecks and clubs of fibres to create a smooth marl effect. Add subtle pattern with sheet co-ordinates using Gorgi's White with Black Pinstripe Cuff, (or Pinstripe Bed Quilt) or detailing in a Black Saddle Stitch to reaffirm the calm, refined approach. For added dimensional texture, try Gorgi's Black and White Wool Thatch Cushion on the bed, or potentially on a chair or within another area in the room to keep the bed simply made.

  5. Style direction - furniture and accessories. Remaining committed to a space that's calm and soothing, ensure the chosen style keeps design lines clean and uncluttered. With an existing room you may start by removing unnecessary furniture to create a more spacious feeling. The Four Poster Bed by Incy Interiors, designed in collaboration with stylist Megan Morton, makes a statement in creating a focal point, yet is considerate with its simplistic lines. A bed that doesn't encourage a virtual life (phones not allowed) but is in favour of rest and sleep and fun only (perfect for creating our Oasis). Consider symmetry and pattern for your rug choice in soft palettes, such as the geometric rug featured from Art Hide (who ship to New Zealand). Nature in the form of plant life will help the bedroom feel grounded and calming - a plant may also have the effect of cleaning the air in your breathing zone. Artwork can be your statement piece as desired. Here you can choose colour, graphic bold prints or illustrations in a gentle palette of earth and blue and green tones.

  6. Style direction - lighting. Another area where function and form can align for an overall thoughtful style, without adding extra pieces to the room. Look for pendants in materials that create interest, such as the pictured pendant in copper electroplated steel from ECC.

  7. Resene paint colours. We selected a simple analogous palette of Resene colour to complement Gorgi's Oasis collection. Statement walls can be painted out in Resene Half Bokara Grey, a burnt bituminous charcoal, warmed by embers and solemn depth. If you have a large space then you could paint all walls - note, with a smaller space take care with strong colour as this can make the room appear smaller. With a smaller space, or to keep it simple, paint the walls in Resene Half Cararra or try Resene Half Tasman for a pale touch of watery grey and green - delicately steadfast and calm. When using lighter colour keep your window sills at half strength or maintain colour right through to retain a contemporary look to your interior.

4.a. Style direction - accent fabrics:  we recommend Gorgi's accent vintage print pillowcases including Colour Me Pretty Pink, Sage Vintage Lace and Sweet Raspberries or for subtlety Gorgi’s Plain Standard Pillowcases in Pink and Gorgi’s Printed Oxford collection

  5. Style direction - furniture and accessories. To create a truly inspirational girly space we have chosen Incy Interiors new Eden Rose Gold Bed and paired this with a timber Teca Barrel Stool available from www.sminteriors.co.nz. For directional light we have selected Moooi’s Lolita Table Lamp in Pink from ecc, (also available in grey, black and white). Our grown up bedroom chair (to position beside the bed or at a simple timber desk) we have selected Douglas and Bec’s Leather Weave Chair for Kate Sylvester, in soft pink. As always we are fans of natural fibre for balance in interior spaces and have included Armadillo’s new Daisy Flower Weave from the ivy house. Our strap mirror with subtle detailing is available from www.corporateculture.co.nz. Finally, we have pulled all bedroom colours together in one feature artwork called Carnival from www.etsy.co.nz.

  6. Resene wall colours. We selected a simple palette of three Resene colours to complement Sylvie’s Pink Duvet Set including Resene Quarter Thorndon CreamResene Narvik and Resene Provincial Pink. These are all present in lighter saturations of colour of which can be applied in full wall application or as single wall application for statement paired with a neutral colour such as Resene Quarter Thorndon Cream.

We always like to balance an environment with natural texture, try chunky jute (or hemp) rugs such as the Serengeti Weave by Armadillo Rugs available from the ivy house. Keep artwork characterful, such as that shown - Little Indian Warrior Girl by Honeycup - available from www.etsy.co.nz. Alternatives to artwork can be statement walls in pastel print wallpapers – image shows Harlequin a vintage wallpaper available online from by www.retrovilla.dk.

Walls can be painted out in Resene Coconut Cream, Resene Secrets, or alternatively for a more girly look try Resene Devoted. If accent colour in furniture is what you are looking try Resene Devoted or Resene Secrets in separate smaller furniture pieces such as stools, timber chairs, mirror frames or even painted out old trunks etc.

Smoke [smoke]

A smoldering grey tone that sits quietly and sedately in your bedroom interior.

Bedroom colour scheme inspired by nature's earth tones

  3. Smoke Linen Duvet Set - the base cloth: [that is the fabric that we use as a backdrop to other products on the top of the bed and also within the room.]

Incorporate natural fibres where possible, large oversized woven baskets or chunky jute (or hemp) rugs. Shown above is the Nest Rug in Charcoal by Armadillo Rugs collection available from www.theivyhouse.co.nz. Note: with a smaller space take care with strong colour as this can make the room appear smaller. With a smaller space or to keep it simple paint the walls in Resene Triple Truffle or Resene Double Barely There. When using lighter colour keep your window sills at half strength or maintain colour right through to retain a contemporary look to your interior.

Gentry [Gen. try]

In earlier times was the term prescribed to nobility, to the rank of the gentleman whose demeanour was demonstrated in part by their personal attire.

  1. A collection inspired by the classic suit with its set of garments crafted from the same cloth to achieve a structured yet sartorial style.

  2. A collection for those who appreciate simplified lines and palettes of post-revolutionary gentlemen’s wear in blue, grey and white colourways.

  3. Gentry Duvet Cover Set [the base cloth]: [that is the fabric that we use as a backdrop to other products on the top of the bed and also within the room.] Constructed in navy drill with contrast white satin piping detail and covered buttons. The reverse backing is a 'finishing lining' and fully reversible for simple change out options.

  4. Style direction – the fabric family: [the fabrics we use to add layers and interest to the base cloth]. Luxe velvets as seen in Gorgi's Oversized Charcoal, Moss and or Navy Velvet Cushions, Gorgi's Black and White Pinstripe Oxfords and Bed Quilts, for stark white contrast add Gorgi's Gentry Insignia Printed Oxfords by NZ Artist Penny Stotter, and Gorgi's Charcoal Wool Cushions and Ottomans for warmth and mood in the winter months.

  5. Style direction – furniture: Look for furniture in walnut or oak timbers, modern or vintage in style. The warmth in these wood finishes work beautifully against the mood and drama created by the depth of colour in the duvet and paint colour selections. Mid century or vintage pieces are a perfect fit however take care to work with similar timber finishes in chair, table legs etc to achieve a level of formality and consistency in the room. Featherston chairs are a great match with button detailing similar to that found in the detailing of the duvet cover, they also hark to an earlier era of aesthetic elegance.

  6. Style direction – lighting: Choose standing and table lamps simple in form, again replica or mid century pieces work perfectly with a mix of contrast wood and painted or fabric shades., alternatively neck lamps in weathered nickle finishes offer classic detail. Katie Brown's handblown glass pendants suspended above side tables or in an cluster of three or four centered to the room will add simple NZ born style.

  7. Style direction – accessories: Floor mirrors are an essential ingredient for the well groomed individual, wood or aged metal frames work equally as well look for tilt rather than wall fixed options. Wall art – monochromatic typographic prints, poster or print art, combinations in various sizes and contrast black on white or white on black, also look for large scale pieces to sit on the floor in addition to wall hung.

Ikebana [Ik: e: ba :na]

The art of Japanese flower arrangement, with formal display according to strict rules.

  1. A collection inspired by nature and its texture and spontaneity.

  2. A collection for grown ups and those growing up.

  3. Ikebana Linen Duvet Cover Set – the base cloth: [that is the fabric that we use as a backdrop to other products on the top of the bed and also within the room.]

  4. Style direction – the fabric family: [fabrics that we use to add layers and interest to the base cloth]. Try products featuring textured cloth e.g. linen - Gorgi's white or natural linen Oxfords with their natural slubs and loose weave make these a perfect accessory.

  5. Style direction – accent fabrics: [as seen in Gorgi's oversized Velvet Scatter Cushions in colours Moss and Mustard.] Moss - a warm green-gold is a tonal combination and offers warmth and colour to the top of the bed, on a sofa or occasional chair. Mustard - a gorgeous yellow-gold hue that offers an injection of intelligent colour.

  6. Style direction – furniture: Keep furniture simple, pair with light wood finishes e.g., oak, ply, beech. Choose pieces that are offer structure yet retain balance, look for clean lines with minimal confusion in shape and form.

  7. Style direction – lighting: Organic in shape, almost origami like. Also try simple cylinder or drum shades in textured fabrics such as Gorgi's natural linen for ambience.
