The Sunrise

Calm before the storm. Early light breaks and spears of light pierce a silent night. Anahera watches as tranquil night transitions into tumultuous day. Waves of light crash and flow over her, the warm orange glow of those precious golden hours wrap her in a familiar embrace. Short lasted, the fleeting moments pass as neon lights tear through clear skies, the city chokes. The sunrise is lost, only witnessed by the few. Its peacefulness a treasure soon forgotten.  Sure to rise again tomorrow.

My inspiration base is around the sunrise itself and Tokyo japan.

The Resene color sunrise itself is a warm peaceful color. It highlights a mood very dear to me. As my partner and I wake up early every morning, still dark and before most of the city is up. Watching the city wake and begin to move is a beautiful sight, set in golden tones. To me the sunrise is; a beginning, its fuel for my day and an introspection before the rush. A calm before the storm.

Tokyo city has always remained a beautiful blending of traditional and modern style, I have used touches of this throughout my design echoing the warmth and the feeling of wrapping yourself in the waves and rays of its sun, contrasting against the constriction of cities.

My garment consists of a pair of tailored pin tuck shorts paired with a pleated open back blouse. The lines of the garment spread out away from the center as rays of light, the sleeves wrap themselves around and sit heavily on the wrist. A corset constricts and emphasizes the female form, contrasting against the blouson effect of the blouse. Blooming away from the waist and into a high collar. Wrapping around the wearers head. I used the pleats to relate to the warm nature of the Resene color sunrise as well as to create depth and a gradient of color to mimic the sunrise. Whilst using the corset and shorts representing the rush of the cities structured and constricting but bathed in light.
