“Resene Captain Cook is a mid toned bright maritime blue, intrepid and ready for adventure.”

This colour reminds me of an expanse of ocean and beautiful beaches. Captain James Cook was a British explorer who sailed the seas and was a Captain in the Royal Navy. I did my research and found out that he sailed the Pacific Ocean and this lead me to Hawaii.

This inspired me to delve into the concept of utilising the vibrant blue of the Hawaiian waves. The colour of Resene Captain Cook reminds me of gushing waves on the rocks. It takes me back to summers spent on the beach with my family and friends. I wanted to embody the Hawaiian waves by incorporating texture in to my garment. Blue is identified with colour of trust, peace, order and loyalty.

My mood board is based on the ocean waves and aquatic life and I wanted to capture this by incorporating frills and ruffles to depict this. I envisage my garment to be worn by a strong, confident, free-spirited and adventurous woman. Someone who is in touch with her natural surroundings, she will wear this striking blue piece with passion and poise.
