Colour: Resene Permanent Green
"This concept is about love and love lost – Kiss it better. My Resene colour, Resene Permanent Green, is a dark and moody colour, which made me want to steer clear of images of flora/fauna typically associated with the colour green. Resene Permanent Green is almost a haunting shade. Inspired by the darkness I created a story about the separation of lovers. In the aftermath of the breakup, a woman is left with a single shirt from her former lover. It is early morning and she has wrapped herself in it, not unlike a worm in a cocoon, but not before taking to it with her golden shears.
My main source of inspiration came from listening to a single song on repeat and spoken word poetry videos. I also have a fascination with gender neutrality and the blending of design elements that lend to typically masculine and feminine silhouettes. I have created two garments for this look – a darted cami style dress which is held together with only bar tacks at the sides that leaves a high split, representing the lingerie the woman is wearing. The second dress is a delicately deconstructed men's shirt which drapes around the bust and falls to an asymmetric hemline – as if cut or torn – and has sleeves which are open at the shoulder and wrap loosely around the wearer.
Kiss it better is for the woman who is gentle and kind, creative and chaotic, caring and selfless, but most of all intelligent and driven.
For the woman who puts herself first.
For the woman who will not be a stepping stone.
For the woman who refuses to be forgotten."
